Here's What's Keeping Me Busy

Posted in Personal
About two weeks ago I noticed a lump on my dog's left hindleg. Because he has had a benign skin tumor before, I decided to keep an eye on it to make sure if it was a tumor or an insect bite of some sort. A few days later the lump appeared to have been punctured and was... oozing, so I called the vet.

The vet seemed to think that it was infact another benign tumor, but Dante had managed to rupture it and it was now badly infected. He prescribed a week's worth of antibiotics and a check up appointment.

Yesterday the dog went back to the vet and because the antibiotics had not worked, they had to operate on his leg, removing infected tissue as much as possible without jeopardising the leg's mobility. Oh, and they cut his nuts off while he was in the OR.

Dante is now on strong painkillers (beef flavored) for a week, and even stronger antibiotics (strawberry flavored... I kid you not) to remove all remaining bacteria and keep the leg from becoming infected again.

We're going in for another check up in two weeks, but the doctor said that with the infected tissue they removed and these now meds, he should be fine by then.

Gotta mention how insanely powerful the painkillers are that Dante is taking. He's a big dog so usually even strong antibiotics only make him a bit drowsy, but when I give him one of the painpills, ten minutes later he's out cold. Like a cricket bat to the neck.

Also, I bought an Xbox 360 and GTA4.

Ok, for the nut-ectomy, when he decides at 7 days, he's had enough of the stitches, make sure he has actually healed before he completely tears them out. You may have to set an egg timer to give your breaks from GTA4 to check on him. ;)

Welcome to the club!

Sorry to read about pooch's nuts. Tough break :(

bebbet - 02:44 - 2008-Aug-13

I hope Dante is feeling better soon. For all the science in the world, why is it they can make medicine for dogs taste good...yet for us humans it taste like crap?

GTA4.....I hate you. I want that and they didn't make it for PS2. I don't have the money to shell out for PS3 or Xbox.

littleMissConfused - 03:23 - 2008-Aug-13

I still prefer San Andreas... *shrug*

Poor little Dante.. *gives the Dante-dog poochy hugs* as if having his leg cut open wasn't bad enough, they lopped his nuts off as well!? Still, like you said on MSN t'other day, it'll be a blessing for your shoulders!

Twist - 03:55 - 2008-Aug-13

Aww poor dante dog *hugs him*
my MuTant had some beef flavored pain meds too, and he had two different antibiotics, they weren't sure what sort of infection he had so they gave two to make sure they knocked it out.

"Sorry to read about pooch's nuts. Tough break :( "

Heheheheheheheheh.

cherry - 04:23 - 2008-Aug-13

Only a woman could find that to be a laughing matter...

bebbet - 04:32 - 2008-Aug-13

I wonder how it would feel to wake up with no boobs.

cherry - 04:46 - 2008-Aug-13

Some of us have to endure that sadness every morning :(

bebbet - 04:46 - 2008-Aug-13

ROFL

Nice.

cherry - 04:48 - 2008-Aug-13

I would love to have no boobs, they are annoying and get in the way, and hurt when sitting the trot, owie.

sarai - 04:52 - 2008-Aug-13

Maybe you just need to choose a career where they're an asset rather than a burden, like temping?

bebbet - 04:53 - 2008-Aug-13

R.I.P Dante's nuts.

Birdy: That's pretty innerstin'. It seems many dogs get pretty moody and depressed if they're neutered later in life. I wonder if putting in prosthetics would help ease that, or if the behavior changes are more hormonal.

OgreJehosephatt - 04:55 - 2008-Aug-13

Sarai: I hear ya. These things are nothing but a nuisance some days. Although, I have found that I get better results in my hunt for a job (read: Yes, we WILL take your CV for future reference), if I wear a top that shows the puppies at their best. Now to figure out what to wear for my interview tomorrow...

Ogre: I'm pretty sure that kinda thing is hormonal. How would you like to be suddenly bereft of testosterone?

Twist - 05:06 - 2008-Aug-13

"How would you like to be suddenly bereft of testosterone?"

Not sure. I think testosterone affects some people differently. I vaguely remember seeing something about a study on how testosterone affects people's moods and such, and there was this one guy that didn't notice any difference though he was given shots of it.

I don't think I'm a particularly aggressive person anyways, so I'd think I'd be more sad about losin' my boys than actually losing my testosterone. Although I have a hard enough time growing a beard as it is.

OgreJehosephatt - 05:15 - 2008-Aug-13

Testosterone is responsible for a lot of things. You'd lose your boys, sure, but you'd also lose your ability to grow facial hair (or in your case, lack of), you'd get hot flashes, lose interest in sex, have trouble getting the old man up, get tired, gain weight, lose your muscular definition, become anaemic, and could even lose your memory.

NOW tell me you wouldn't mind having no testosterone. There's a massive difference in having a little more injected into, and having none at all.

Twist - 06:41 - 2008-Aug-13

like temping
Like wha?
I think the only time they are an asset if for stripper and the like, I may be a tease but I'm not quite that bad LoL

sarai - 09:30 - 2008-Aug-13

Sorry: temping = office work ;)

bebbet - 10:08 - 2008-Aug-13

Temping's good because it's just the right amount of time to sleep with everyone in the office and then move on.

cherry - 01:25 - 2008-Aug-14

You need nice breasts to be a temp there?

slayerbarbie - 01:46 - 2008-Aug-14

Don't need, necessarily, but they certainly help.

bebbet - 10:26 - 2008-Aug-14

"NOW tell me you wouldn't mind having no testosterone."

Heh heh. It's hard to say, but th' meat berries aren't the only source of testosterone, so I wouldn't have no testosterone if I lost my guys.

I thought the list of aliments was funny though:

"lose interest in sex"

Heh. I'd probably be happier if I didn't have interest in sex.; Desire breeds suffering.

"have trouble getting the old man up"

It would probably be a boon if I wasn't interested in sex. And as it is, I'm far too prone to Morning Wood situations, which extends into situations such as just being sleepy and sitting.

"get tired"

Usually am.

"gain weight"

Already doing that.

"lose your muscular definition"

Never had any, even when I was really thin while I wrestled.

"and could even lose your memory"

My memory is pretty spotty as it is.

OgreJehosephatt - 04:15 - 2008-Aug-15

that's it Ogre is a Castrati! LoL

sarai - 04:22 - 2008-Aug-15

Uh. A belated "awwww...." Hope the dog's feeling better by now. I know I wouldn't be able to sleep if something happened to my whiskered friend like that.

annmi - 02:59 - 2008-Aug-17

"Oh, and they cut his nuts off while he was in the OR. "

Poor dog will now be too afraid to show any signs of sickness for the rest of this life! Imagine going to a hospital to remove a cyst and waking up without your balls!
