Day Of Greatness

Today was my Christmas. The Turku International Book Fair, which includes the Food Fair and the Collectibles Fair.

As an avid book collector, there are certain pieces of world literature that just have to be in my collection. But sadly, some of them are immensly hard to come by. So today I am high with booky glee, because I found a book which I have been looking for for at least six years; John Milton's Paradise Lost + Other Poems.

That pretty much emptied my budget for the entire fair. So we mosied on down to the food fair, and took part in a wine and cheese tasting. It was fun, if somewhat longwinded. The cheeseguy went on for at least half an hour, and then the sommelier talked for another twenty minutes. After that, we finally got to taste the samples, and as we were asked to rate them, I actually learned something. Of all the wines, I disliked most a very sweet and robust white wine, but when sampled along with the cheeses, it topped my list. The sommelier explained that often potent cheeses require a similar wine, something that can stand up to the multiple nuances. I've been doing it wrong all these years, I tend to buy a medium wine with cheeses, thinking that it won't knock out the flavors of the cheese.

At the end of the tasting, the sommelier told us a "dirty secret". It's a matter of taste. Are there rules of etiquette? Yes. Should they be observed? Only at a three star restaurant. At home and at parties, eat and drink what makes you feel good, that's what it's all about.

I then ordered an Acer Aspire One, but the guy said they may have sold too many of them today and may be all out, so I'll know in a few days if I'm getting one.

Walking back from the congress centre, we got caught in the storm which is now making it's way across the coast. Ten minute walk and we were so soaked, all that was left to do was get nekkid, make half a gallon of maté, and curl up under a blanket on the sofa. Bliss.

Sounds like a brilliant day. That book needs to be in my collection, too.

I've never read any Milton. I sometimes (okay, often) feel very uncultured. I went to the theatre for the first time on Friday. Practically everyone else from my playwriting class (who are, on average, 9 years younger than me) were astonished to hear that fact.

Also, helluva way to end the day!

Great! Whose illustrations does it come with? Blake? Doré..? Dalì?
I miss seeing books in English.

What's "mate" with the little thingy above the 'e'?

And is it used in conjunction with getting nekkid?

What am I missing out on here, man??

TELL ME!!!

Annmi - It's not illustrated. But what makes this copy "special" is that it's a collation of the first two editions of Paradise Lost, which were edited by Milton himself, and are thus the original version.

Cherry - It's yerba maté... tea, baybeee, Che Guevara's tea of choice, to be exact.

Wow!
