Jealousy, I Name Thee... Me?

Ever get a bonus from work? Not money, but something else? Like a DVD player? I got a pat on the back and a muffin when my first article was published years ago. My brother, he got a €70,000 custom built Audi A4, every detail and specification made per his wishes.

He works for Audi, and at some point he was asked what would be the perfect A4, the kind he would like to put on display at one of the dealerships in Finland. And he just gives out a list of details. Three months later, the car is sitting on his parking lot and a courier hands him a note, basically saying, "keep up the good work". Pearly white, creamy white leather seats, a bi-turbo V8, and pretty much every gadget Audi has in their catalogue. I rarely look at a car and go "That is a work of art".

I don't ask that much from life, I just basically want to be comfortable and left alone. So I don't normally crave for what other people have. I just think it's not fair I got a muffin and he gets a sports sedan that was purpose built for him.

Here's What's Keeping Me Busy

Posted in Personal

About two weeks ago I noticed a lump on my dog's left hindleg. Because he has had a benign skin tumor before, I decided to keep an eye on it to make sure if it was a tumor or an insect bite of some sort. A few days later the lump appeared to have been punctured and was... oozing, so I called the vet.

The vet seemed to think that it was infact another benign tumor, but Dante had managed to rupture it and it was now badly infected. He prescribed a week's worth of antibiotics and a check up appointment.

Yesterday the dog went back to the vet and because the antibiotics had not worked, they had to operate on his leg, removing infected tissue as much as possible without jeopardising the leg's mobility. Oh, and they cut his nuts off while he was in the OR.

Dante is now on strong painkillers (beef flavored) for a week, and even stronger antibiotics (strawberry flavored... I kid you not) to remove all remaining bacteria and keep the leg from becoming infected again.

We're going in for another check up in two weeks, but the doctor said that with the infected tissue they removed and these now meds, he should be fine by then.

Gotta mention how insanely powerful the painkillers are that Dante is taking. He's a big dog so usually even strong antibiotics only make him a bit drowsy, but when I give him one of the painpills, ten minutes later he's out cold. Like a cricket bat to the neck.

Also, I bought an Xbox 360 and GTA4.

We've Lost Another One

Just the other day I was talking with Bebbet about great artists who have died far too soon, and wouldn't you know it, it happens again.

Actor and comedian Bernie Mac died today from complications due to penumonia. Mac had been hospitalised a week earlier, but was said to be responding to treatment and was expected to make a full recovery.

Mac was one of The Original Kings Of Comedy, a comedy group which toured the US in the 90's and all of whom later gained great fame. Other members of the Kings were Cedric The Entertainer, D.L. Hughley and Steve Harvey.

Though maintaining a steady acting career throughout his stand up career, Mac later gained greater fame in as the star of his own sitcom The Bernie Mac Show, which lasted for five seasons, and a host of blockbuster movies, including the Ocean's Eleven franchise.

Here's a clip from The Original Kings Of Comedy show, to take away the pain.

Bones

Posted in Personal

Four weeks ago I took a nasty little tumble. But while I was going down, my left foot, stuck under a decorative bannister, was not. My ankle was swollen so bad it was like a cast, the swelling kept the foot immobile for several days.

As the swelling began to subside and the pains started to become manageable, I decided have it looked at. At first it was suspected to be just a severely twisted ankle, and that the tendons and ligaments around it would need a lot of time to heal. Then, as time progressed, it was suspected there may be a tear in the achilles tendon. And when I met my doctor last Friday, he said that it probably isn't a tear, but that there may have been a slight fracture in the bone, and a micro fragment of the bone has now lodged itself in the tendon.

So yesterday I went for an X-ray and an ultrasound. And my doctor was suppose to call me the results Thursday morning. But instead he called today. Apparently he felt that the double fracture I have in my ankle requires immediate surgical consultation.

Fortunately the surgeon said that the breaks are clean and surgery is probably not required. Probably not because normally it would heal easy, but because some stupid people they are Superman and walk around for four weeks with a double fracture, and now the bone may not heal itself as it normally would.

So I have a cast. For six weeks. And every two weeks, all the way up to eight weeks from now, they are going to take more pictures of the bone and hope it starts to heal. If not, then at some point it will require surgery.

At least I got my copy of the Watchmen today, so I'll have something to do while I with my leg up.

Theodore

Posted in Personal

I was at the grocery store today, and I bought something special.

A chicken.

A whole chicken.

Frozen, not alive.

I call him Theodore.

And I'm gonna stuff him with garlic and onions.

Then cook him in a stock made with Newcastle Brown Ale.

Theodore shall be the star guest of my weekend supper.
